Ticks: As always, you should be doing tick checks when we get out of the woods.  Please also continue these tick checks at home.  Here's a video that illustrates the proper way to remove ticks.

Freshmen:
  • Monday we went birding with a member of the Audubon Society at the Meriden Landfill.   We got to see a raven and some other great birds!
  • SAE plans are almost complete.  Students will finish up on Tuesday when we complete the last form for the state.  The projects look awesome!
  • Students are also expected to be turning in an essay for the FFA Essay Contest (see last week's post) for a chance to earn a (almost) free trip to the National FFA Convention.  This opportunity is only open to 9th and 10th graders.

Sophomores:
  • Wildlife Biology students taught the Aquaculture class about our equipment this week.  The class came up with such a great game, we played it with the seniors for their review session.
  • SAE plans are almost compete and will be finished next week.
  • Students are also expected to be turning in an essay for the FFA Essay Contest (see last week's post) for a chance to earn a (almost) free trip to the National FFA Convention.  This opportunity is only open to 9th and 10th graders.
Juniors:
  • Since the majority of the ENR and Envirothon teams members are in this class we have been taking a break to work on their team presentations.  Students who are not on the team have been working on the wildlife garden, managing invasives such as garlic mustard and the newly emerged mugwart.
Seniors:
  • Scholarship- Arborjet
  • We have been reviewing for NOCTI and searching scholarships for next year!

FFA

FFA Meeting: The next FFA meeting is on Tuesday May 16th.

ENR/Envirothon- Permission slips are posted on the board in the classroom.  Please let me know when you plan on meeting next week.  Right now, I plan on seeing everyone, every day after school.  If you cannot attend, please let me know.  Poster for ENR must be done by the end of the meeting on Tuesday!

#WhatTheJacketHasDoneForMe Campaign: Recently there has been some "blue bashing" where people are either speaking poorly of FFA or don't fully understand what FFA can do for them.  I have decided to start a "What The Jacket Has Done For Me" campaign.  Nick will be editing the video clips together.  If you would like to participate in this social media campaign, please send me either a video clip (vlog style) or a brief write up letting others know what FFA has done for you.  FFA has provided me with endless opportunities in life and I would not be teaching Ag if I didn't wear the blue jacket.  Don't miss out on the incredible opportunities it has for you.

Opportunities and Ideas:
  • Volunteer with Cheshire Land Trust:
    • Lend a hand--- May's Stewardship Day with the Cheshire Land Trust will be at Fresh Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday, May 20th. Time start: 9:00 a.m. and work detail will wrap up at noon. There is parking at the small lot off Cook Hill Road, just past Elim Park. You can also park on Corliss and walk over. Bring loppers, snips, hand saws, work gloves and water. Dress accordingly (long sleeves, baseball hat, etc.). Rain cancels. Email to: CheshireCTLand@aol.com to let us know if you will help, so we can plan accordingly. We'll provide sandwiches for lunch. Youth groups (15 and up) and adults are welcome. Community hours will be given.
  • Participate in the Agriscience fair 2018
  • Race the Quinnipiac River
